The Cincinnati Form-Based Code Initiative has organized a visit to Columbus, Ohio to learn about efforts to create walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods through the use of Traditional Neighborhood Design and Form-Based codes.
The visit will be the entire day of DECEMBER 4th, 2009. The cost is $20 per attendee. Attendees are responsible for their transportation to and from Columbus and their own lunch at Columbus' North Market.
We'll see three scales of development: The Urban, the Village, and the Suburban (from Downtown Columbus through the Short North and University districts to New Albany, Ohio). We shall meet with Columbus and New Albany planning staff to learn about the processes they undertook in establishing their Traditional Neighborhood Design codes, and other regulations. We will also meet with developers and planners of key projects who have designed and built projects under the Traditional Neighborhood Codes. We'll take walking tours of 3 projects and a bus tour of several others as speakers explain the story behind each effort. We'll learn about the pros and cons are of each code, and consider how we may employ similar efforts in our region to create worthwhile, walkable places.
